Field Service Engineer – Gates, Barriers & Security Systems

Location: North London (ideally based within 20 miles of Watford)

Salary: £35,000 basic + uncapped overtime + on-call allowance (OTE £45,000–£50,000+)

We’re working with a leading engineering firm that designs, installs, and maintains physical security systems across the UK. They're looking for a Field Service Engineer to join their growing team, supporting both installation and ongoing maintenance. This role is ideal for someone with a solid mechanical and electrical background who is happy working outdoors, occasionally in challenging environments (e.g. drilling, working in pits, getting dirty). Plenty of weekend work and overtime is available, and full product training will be provided.

  • Overtime at 1.3x after 40 hours on weekdays

Field Services Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Install, service and repair physical security equipment such as gates, barriers, blockers and turnstiles
  • Attend breakdowns and perform fault-finding and diagnostics
  • Take part in a 1-in-5 (moving to 1-in-6) on-call rota, with an average of 3 callouts per week
  • Complete electronic job sheets using a tablet or smartphone
  • Deliver excellent customer service on site and communicate clearly with clients
  • Travel across the South East and occasionally further afield, including overnight stays where required

Field Service Engineer Requirements:

  • Based in North London – ideally within a 20-mile radius of Watford
  • Strong mechanical skillset – hands-on background is essential
  • Electrical knowledge is an advantage (e.g. 18th Edition, 3-phase, or 24v DC/AC systems)
  • Full UK driving licence (preferably clean)
  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual work, outdoor environments, and confined spaces
  • Willing to travel, stay away overnight when required, and work weekends when required
  • Able to pass a safety-critical medical and face fit test (clean-shaven required for P3 mask)
  • Must be British-born (due to site clearance requirements)
  • Must have no criminal convictions (security clearance required)
