Instead, this role centres around technical coordination, software delivery, requirements management, project triage and supporting a highly capable engineering team.

The Role
As Technical Development Manager, you will support the coordination and delivery of software, firmware and electronics development projects across a busy and growing engineering environment. You’ll work alongside internal software engineers and external development partners, helping to triage requests, manage technical priorities, assess feasibility and ensure projects are delivered effectively. The environment is fast-paced and highly varied, with a mixture of:
- New product development
- Existing product improvements
- Software platform evolution
- Embedded and PC-based applications
- Hardware/software integration projects
You’ll also play a key role in helping translate business and customer requirements into clear technical deliverables for the engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee software and digital development activities across multiple projects
- Work closely with software engineers to manage ticketing, backlog and development priorities
- Help define and refine technical requirements and specifications
- Support project triage, feasibility assessments and technical decision-making
- Collaborate with project managers, chief engineers and sales teams
- Manage relationships with external software/electronics development suppliers where required
- Review technical deliverables and support software architecture discussions
- Assist with code reviews and occasional hands-on technical support when needed
- Support the development of future software and product roadmaps
- Help drive best practice across software delivery and project coordination
What We’re Looking For
- Strong background in software development or software engineering
- Previous experience leading projects, software delivery activities, backlogs or technical teams
- Experience working with ticketing/project management systems such as GitHub, Jira or similar
- Understanding of embedded systems, firmware, electronics or hardware/software integration
- Experience working within product development or engineering-led environments
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across several live projects
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Problem-solving mindset with good technical judgement
- Experience with C/C++ environments would be highly beneficial
- Exposure to PC-based applications, embedded systems, FPGAs or PCB/electronics environments would be advantageous
This role would particularly suit someone who still enjoys the technical side of software and systems development but is looking to move further into technical leadership, project coordination and product-focused delivery. Apply now and one of the team will reach out to discuss the next steps.
