We are building a future-ready Genomics service that combines a new enterprise LIMS, an in-house Whole Genome Sequencing capability, purpose-designed laboratory facilities and redesigned end-to-end pathways. This is an opportunity to lead a nationally significant programme that will improve patient safety, reduce manual working, strengthen auditability and create the platform for future growth and innovation.

As Genomics Programme Manager, you will provide strategic leadership across digital, scientific, operational, infrastructure and commercial workstreams. You will shape the roadmap, direct project managers and specialist leads, manage major dependencies and investment, and bring together Synnovis, NHS Trusts, the South East Genomic Medicine Service, NHS England and our delivery partners around a common set of outcomes.

Main duties of the job

• Oversee implementation of the enterprise Genomics LIMS, including Epic Beaker and Projodis integration, migration, testing, validation, cutover and legacy-system decommissioning.
• Oversee establishment of the WGS service, including Floor 7 construction and fit-out, equipment, operational modelling, pathway design and validation/verification for safe go-live.
• Direct multidisciplinary project managers and workstream leads across clinical, scientific, digital, IT, estates, quality, training, communications and commercial activity.
• Own programme-level planning, risks, issues, dependencies, change control, assurance, executive reporting and decision-making.
• Manage significant budgets, business cases, funding conditions, contracts, suppliers and benefits realisation.
• Ensure compliance with patient-safety, ISO 15189, UKAS, NHS England GMS, UK GDPR and DSPT requirements.
• Lead operational readiness, adoption and transition so that new systems, facilities and services are sustainable in business as usual.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

At Synnovis, we are currently shaping the future of pathology services by creating a world-leading Hub and Spoke pathology network with our NHS partners. A large part of this modernisation has involved moving 70% of our services to a purpose built, state of the art Hub laboratory in the heart of London. The job you are applying for will be based at our Hub laboratory in Blackfriars, Southwark, SE1.

Job Description and Main Responsibilities

• Own the integrated programme plan, maintaining oversight of the critical path, milestones, resources and dependencies across digital, scientific, operational, technical, infrastructure and commercial workstreams.
• Lead delivery of the enterprise Genomics LIMS, overseeing Epic Beaker and Projodis configuration, system integration, data migration, testing, validation, cutover, implementation and decommissioning of legacy systems.
• Oversee establishment of the Whole Genome Sequencing service, including laboratory construction and fit-out, equipment implementation, operational modelling, pathway development and validation and verification activities required for a safe go-live.
• Direct and coordinate multidisciplinary delivery teams, providing leadership, clear accountabilities and constructive challenge to project managers, workstream leads, clinical and scientific specialists, technical teams and external suppliers.
• Establish and maintain effective programme governance and assurance, ensuring clear decision‑making, executive reporting, escalation arrangements, scope control and compliance with Synnovis PMO standards.
• Own programme‑level risk, issue and dependency management, proactively identifying threats to delivery, developing effective mitigation plans and escalating matters requiring senior or executive intervention.
• Manage programme finances and commercial performance, including budgets, forecasts, business cases, funding conditions, procurement activity, supplier contracts and the achievement of value for money.
• Ensure programme outputs meet all required quality, safety and regulatory standards, including ISO 15189, UKAS accreditation, NHS England Genomic Medicine Service requirements, UK GDPR, DSPT and applicable information‑governance obligations.
• Own benefits realisation, organisational change and operational readiness, ensuring new systems, facilities and services are adopted successfully, deliver measurable improvements and transition into sustainable business‑as‑usual ownership.

Synnovis is a pathology partnership between SYNLAB UK and Ireland, and the NHS, including sites, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver and transform pathology services across South East London.

The partnership provides services to 1.7 million people living in South East London, as well as to hundreds of thousands of patients from outside the region who use local healthcare services.

Synnovis’ corporate function operates from the hub on the 8th floor, above the laboratories underneath. This is a total net internal area of almost 10,000m squared across the 10 floors. Based in Blackfriars, it’s less than a 5 minute walk from Southwark Tube or Blackfriars station and nestled closely to a vast array of entertainment and fabulous places to dine, relax and meet people.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification or equivalent senior programme delivery experience.
• MSP, APM PPQ/PMQ, PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent recognised programme/project management qualification.

Experience

• Extensive experience leading complex, high‑value transformation programmes in a multi‑site, multi‑stakeholder environment.
• Proven delivery across digital, operational, technical and infrastructure workstreams with significant interdependencies.
• Experience directing project managers and workstream leads, with responsibility for integrated planning, governance, assurance and executive reporting.
• Strong financial management, procurement/vendor oversight, benefits realisation and change control experience.
• Experience managing implementation, validation, migration, operational readiness and safe go‑live of regulated services or systems.
• Genomics, pathology, laboratory or NHS programme experience.
• Experience of LIMS/EPR integration, Epic Beaker, Projodis or national genomics platforms.
• Experience establishing WGS services or laboratory facilities.
• Knowledge of UKAS and ISO 15189.
