This is an exciting new opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist to join our Reference Chemistry department. We are a spoke laboratory located in the Heart Sciences Centre at Harefield Hospital, operating 8:45-4:50 Monday to Friday and on call 10-2pm over the weekend and Bank Holidays.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and proactive individual to join our small team as HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.

You will be reporting to the Operations Managers and hold a variety of responsibilities to ensure the successful delivery of Reference Chemistry services, in line with our corporate objectives.

The ideal candidate will be a quick learner and good team player and someone looking to gain valuable experience in Mass Spectrometry.

The post holder will join a small team of BMS and MLA staff and following all the appropriate training, will be expected to participate in weekend on-call to maintain service provision.

Responsibilities

  • To participate in the provision of the Immunosuppression Drug Monitoring Service performing a range of highly technical procedures within the laboratory to a high standard in line with the department standard operating procedures.
  • To assist in the day-to-day tasks within the laboratory including stock control and instrument maintenance.
  • To perform all core scientific work, consistent with training and qualifications of a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS). To comply with all departmental policies, protocols and standard operating procedures including health and safety.
  • To assist the department in complying with UKAS ISO15189 standards.
  • To improve professional expertise and specialist skills by active participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities.
  • To participate in the weekend rota after appropriate training and competency assessment.

Harefield Hospital

Based in Uxbridge, Northwest London, the hospital is one of the largest and most experienced centres in the world for heart and lung transplants. It has jointly pioneered work in the development of ‘artificial hearts’ (also known as left ventricular assist devices or LVADs).

At our dedicated heart attack centre, we deal with heart attack emergencies from outer north-west London, providing primary angioplasty in our specialist catheter laboratories. We believe our arrival-to-treatment time of 27 minutes is one of the fastest in Europe. Speed of treatment has been shown to be crucial to survival in these cases.

The Immunosuppression Drug Monitoring lab is in the Heart Sciences building at Harefield hospital, offering the convenience of onsite parking and good public transport links with a regular bus service from the hospital\’s main entrance. You will be part of a small, dedicated team who thrive to provide an exceptional service. You will be trained and guided by experienced staff and will have the opportunity to take advantage of training and development courses provided by Synnovis Learning and Development team.
