We are looking for an experienced and motivated Synnovis Pay Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Haematology and Blood Transfusion team at Royal Brompton Hospital on a fixed‑term basis (12 month maternity cover, until 16/7/27).
The role involves supporting delivery of a high‑quality Haematology and Blood Transfusion service, undertaking routine and specialist laboratory investigations and contributing to the day‑to‑day operation of the department. The laboratories use Sysmex analysers (XN‑10 and XN‑20 for FBCs), two CN‑3000s for coagulation and EPIC Beaker LIMS. Blood Transfusion employs two Bio‑Rad IH‑500 analysers, Winpath and Bloodtrack systems.
The post is expected to be weekday day shifts, with flexibility to cover weekends and out‑of‑hours shifts. The specialist will process specimens, analyse and release results while maintaining local quality systems and meeting turnaround times. It offers an opportunity to develop specialist knowledge within a well‑established pathology service supporting cardiothoracic and respiratory care.
What you will do
- Complete routine and complex specialist biomedical investigations in accordance with standard operating procedures and within specified turnaround times.
- Deliver work autonomously within all regulations and legislative requirements, operating and maintaining complex laboratory equipment in accordance with safety standards and troubleshooting as needed.
- Supervise and guide colleagues, answering questions and providing support.
- Use cost‑effective methods, maintain consumable goods and supplies, and report shortages.
