We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic experienced Band 3 Laboratory Administrator in our Histology department. This role is part of a team which provides an efficient and effective Histology service to two general hospitals (Southend University/Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital Trusts) and local GP community.

You will be expected to:

  • Support the laboratory delivering its overall service through administrative and supply chain duties.
  • Perform all designated duties in accordance with local working practices, maintaining high personal standards and conforming to Health and Safety regulations.
  • Provide administrative and supply chain support to the laboratory.
  • Work within agreed quality standards of service delivery.
  • Continue with personal development through academic or practical experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to all areas of the laboratory (dependent on experience and training) performing all designated duties in accordance with local working practices whilst maintaining high personal standards and conforming to Health and Safety regulations.
  • Provide information and non-technical/clinical advice to users of the pathology service.
  • Provide internal supply chain activities, e.g. receipts, distribution and materials management using computerised systems.
  • Propose changes to supply chain procedures as required in order to develop and streamline the service or to reflect other changes.
  • Utilise the laboratory LIS, Q-Pulse quality monitoring system and other application software according to authorised protocols including assisting in computer data entry in all areas of the laboratory.
  • Communicate efficiently, courteously and with clarity at all times, whether face to face, telephone or electronic methods referring enquiries to senior staff where appropriate.
  • Attend and participate positively in laboratory and other meetings as directed by Laboratory managers.
  • Plan and prioritise work allocations, responding appropriately to the needs of routine and urgent activities.
  • Use consumables and equipment within your allocated section responsibly and be responsible for stock control audits and recording through approved channels as required.
  • Report all incidents and adverse events to senior staff and enter the information in the CAPA module of Q-pulse in a timely manner as directed by senior staff.
  • Demonstrate ongoing competency against training plans and participate positively in CPD (continuous professional development) activities.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3, or equivalent, level of knowledge.
  • Good knowledge of the supply chain requirements of the laboratory.
  • Good degree of accuracy & numeracy.
  • Knowledge of administrative systems and computer applications in use within Pathology, particularly LIMS, Quality Management System and Procurement system.
  • Experience of working in a Biomedical laboratory.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of levels of staff within the laboratory, user organisations and suppliers of goods and services.
  • Good developed interpersonal and team working abilities.
  • Adept at goods receipt and effective stock control procedures.
  • Ability to manage time to best advantage.
  • Ability to adapt efficiently to change.
  • Able to plan activities within area of work.
  • High degree of dexterity required.
  • Able to concentrate for prolonged periods of time.

Desirable: Progress to a degree entry qualification.
