Are you an experienced Phlebotomist looking for your next opportunity?
We are expanding our established and growing phlebotomy team and are looking for skilled, compassionate and motivated Phlebotomists to join us as we bring the phlebotomy service at Broomfield Hospital into our existing service.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a team that is committed to delivering a safe, efficient and patient-focused blood testing service.
We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced and competent phlebotomists who can demonstrate excellent venepuncture skills, a strong commitment to patient care and the ability to work confidently as part of a busy multidisciplinary service.
However, experience is not essential. If you have the right attitude, excellent communication skills and a genuine desire to develop a career in phlebotomy, we can provide you with a comprehensive training programme to support you in becoming a confident and competent practitioner.
What will the role involve?
You will provide a professional and compassionate phlebotomy service to a diverse range of patients, ensuring that every patient receives safe, respectful and high-quality care.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking venepuncture safely and competently in accordance with agreed procedures and standards.
- Providing a positive and reassuring experience for patients who may be anxious or have specific needs.
- Correctly identifying patients and ensuring samples are collected, labelled and handled in accordance with laboratory requirements.
- Working effectively within a busy clinical environment while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Recognising and responding appropriately to difficult or challenging venepuncture.
- Maintaining accurate documentation and complying with relevant policies, procedures and infection prevention requirements.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
- Contributing to a positive team culture and supporting continuous improvement within the service.
Your training and development
For successful candidates who are new to phlebotomy, we offer a structured training and competency programme designed to give you the knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to become a competent phlebotomist.
All new starters will initially undertake their training at our dedicated Blood Test Unit in Southend, where you will be supported by experienced colleagues and given the opportunity to develop your practical skills in a supportive environment.
Once you have successfully completed the required training and competency assessments, you will transition into the Broomfield service as part of the wider phlebotomy team.
For experienced phlebotomists, your existing knowledge and competencies will be recognised, with an appropriate induction and assessment programme to ensure you are familiar with our systems, processes and standards.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people who are:
- Competent and confident in venepuncture, or enthusiastic and committed to learning.
- Patient-focused, compassionate and professional.
- Able to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
- Reliable, organised and able to work effectively in a busy environment.
- Comfortable working with patients from a wide range of backgrounds and with differing needs.
- Committed to maintaining high standards of infection prevention, patient safety and confidentiality.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a wider team.
- Positive, adaptable and willing to contribute to the continued development of our service.
This is more than simply a phlebotomy role. You will be joining an established team at an exciting point of growth, with the opportunity to be part of the mobilisation and development of our Broomfield service.
We offer:
- A comprehensive training and competency programme for those new to phlebotomy.
- Support from experienced and knowledgeable colleagues.
- Opportunities to develop your skills and experience.
- A structured induction into the Broomfield service.
- The opportunity to contribute to a new chapter in an established service.
- A supportive team environment where patient care, safety and quality are at the heart of what we do.
