THE ROLE
The Principal Infrastructure Engineer – Azure will design and maintain scalable, compliant, and cost‑optimized infrastructure blueprints across Syniti’s Azure‑hosted environments. This role directly supports the global expansion of our SaaS platform by delivering IaC and architectural frameworks aligned to regional compliance (Cyber Essentials+, SecNumCloud) and Northstar’s goals of regionalized builds, observability, and zero‑trust boundaries. This engineer will serve as the Azure infrastructure lead for the technical initiative to port Syniti’s platform to Azure. They will define and validate baseline infrastructure, cloud‑native service integrations, and CI/CD deployment models that ensure operational consistency and compliance across hyperscaler environments.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Design reusable infrastructure modules for deploying PaaS services, networking, and identity in Azure.
- Collaborate with SREs and platform teams to develop hardened Azure blueprints for regulated workloads.
- Implement tagging, policy, and automation frameworks that enforce cost control and compliance adherence.
- Build and maintain CI/CD integrations for Azure region deployment automation.
- Serve as Azure infrastructure SME in support of audits and security reviews (Cyber Essentials+, SecNumCloud).
WHAT IT TAKES
- Self‑starter with deep understanding of hybrid cloud patterns and Azure ecosystems.
- Exceptional documentation and system architecture design capabilities.
- Strong system design thinking and architectural decision making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills across engineering and compliance teams.
- Self‑motivated with a focus on infrastructure maintainability and automation.
- Experience supporting regulated environments.
- 15+ years of infrastructure and cloud engineering experience.
- 5+ years of hands‑on Azure experience with a focus on PaaS services, networking, and Azure Policy.
- 3+ years experience with Terraform module development for infrastructure provisioning.
- Experience with Azure native security, workload identity, and role‑based access control.
- CI/CD and automation experience with GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
- Experience building regionally compliant architectures (UK, France, Canada).
