We have an exciting opportunity for a Transcriptomics Bioinformatician to help drive the invention of safe and sustainable active ingredients in Product Safety by contributing to the cutting‑edge research and development within our dynamic and highly talented team.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with scientists within Syngenta to process and analyse in‑house and public domain transcriptomics datasets to provide toxicological insights to enable chemical prioritisation.
  • Seek out latest developments in data analysis and visualisation, in consultation with senior technical experts, and assess their potential use to support projects.
  • Communicate the output of transcriptomics datasets to a wide and varied community of end users.
  • Contribute to data management processes and solutions for capturing and exploiting omics data.
  • Contribute to the development of multi‑omics integration solutions in multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Network within Syngenta and the external bioinformatics community to ensure best use of resources and opportunities.

Qualifications

Critical Experience and Skills:

  • Educated to PhD degree level in Bioinformatics, Computational Science, Data Science or Statistics, or a Graduate with relevant experience.
  • Strong demonstrable competence with programming languages such as Python and R, and with writing bioinformatics analysis and visualisation pipelines for transcriptomics data.
  • Evidence of applying computational/bioinformatic skills to address complex biological questions.
  • High level of attention to detail and compliance with best practices.
  • Ability to work across disciplines and translate transcriptomics data into actionable insights.
  • Self‑starter with enthusiasm, flexibility and motivation to learn and apply new skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to present complex (written and oral) results to non‑specialists in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to quickly develop key relationships and to communicate within and across multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Skills And Experience:

  • Experience of designing and building agentic LLM workflows that support decision‑making in bioinformatics.
  • Experience of applying transcriptomics to toxicology, ecotoxicology or perturbation biology.
  • Knowledge of data analysis pipelines for single‑cell and spatial multi‑omics data.
  • Experience with integrating multi‑omics datasets (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) with toxicological data using AI/ML approaches.
  • Familiarity with high performance computing environments and reproducible workflows.
  • Development of dashboards for data visualisation.
  • Familiarity with knowledge graphs.

Jealott's Hill International Research Centre UK is situated in pleasant semi‑rural surroundings between Bracknell and Maidenhead and is the place of work for approximately 800 Syngenta scientists and support staff. Jealott’s Hill is one of the main global research and development sites and key activities include research into discovery of new active ingredients, new formulation technologies, product safety and technical support of our product range.
