Overview
In this role you will support large‑scale fine/speciality chemical manufacturing on a Top Tier COMAH site, partnering with production and engineering to drive daily troubleshooting, process optimisation, and capital projects.
You will apply core chemical engineering principles to unit operations and safety standards, lead commissioning and risk assessments, and mentor graduates on the IChem E scheme.
This position offers hands‑on impact across feasibility to implementation, with a clear link to business improvements.

Responsibilities
- Support day‑to‑day troubleshooting and process optimisation for a defined plant area
- Drive capital improvement projects from feasibility to commissioning
- Apply chemical engineering principles to unit operations (reactors, separations, heat transfer, powder handling, filtration/drying)
- Ensure compliance with HSE standards and risk assessment processes (HAZOP, safety instrumented systems, pressure relief, DSEAR)
- Define scope and compile design data for capital projects and plant modifications
- Lead project commissioning to meet design intent and safe production
- Coach and mentor graduate engineers on the IChem E accredited scheme
- Key requirements
- Degree in chemical or process engineering (minimum BEng)
- Typically 4+ years’ experience as Chemical Process Engineer in chemical manufacturing
- Chartered Engineer status or MIChem E membership (or actively working towards)
- Knowledge of process risk assessment systems (HAZOP) and HSE standards
- Strong influencing skills
- Experience in speciality or fine chemical manufacture or pharmaceuticals is advantageous
- Experience commissioning capital projects on a top tier COMAH site
- Practical and theoretical knowledge in batch chemical process engineering
- Ability to work independently and plan/control own work
- Experience with continuous improvement using LEAN / Six Sigma or similar tools
