Our Crop Protection Research Chemistry team is seeking a highly motivated, innovative synthetic organic chemist to join as a Senior Scientist. This role offers the opportunity to apply your synthetic chemistry expertise within multi-disciplinary projects discovering the next generation of crop protection products. Previous experience in the field of Agrochemistry is not essential - we welcome applications from synthetic chemists with a variety of academic or industrial backgrounds, keen to apply and continuously develop their synthetic organic chemistry skills.
Responsibilities
- Synthesis Execution: Effective execution of synthetic routes to targets, partnering with key support platforms such as automation, purification, and analytical to maximise efficiency of target delivery whilst maintaining the highest standards of HSE.
- Route Design: Independent and collaborative design of safe, sustainable and efficient synthetic routes to target molecules, drawing on knowledge, digital tools, and new or emerging synthetic technologies.
- Problem Solving: Develop creative solutions to synthetic challenges and troubleshoot synthetic chemistry using analytical data-driven approaches to deliver solutions.
- Documentation and Communication: Document experimental procedures, risk assessments and data with high scientific accuracy and effectively communicate results and key findings to peers and stakeholders.
- Continuous Improvement: Take a proactive approach to sustain excellence in modern synthetic methods and technologies as well as contributing to improvement of laboratory safety, efficiency and ways of working.
Qualifications
- PhD in synthetic organic chemistry or BSc/MSc degree in Chemistry with equivalent organic synthesis experience in an industrial setting.
- Excellent knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry with exemplary practical skills and safety standards.
- Proven ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively as needed to achieve project goals.
- Strong communication skills, able to present scientific results clearly and compellingly.
- Demonstrated track record route design, problem solving and delivery in synthetic chemistry projects.
- Autonomy in planning and prioritisation of own time to achieve a high level of productivity.

- Additional post-doctoral or industrial experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
