About the Role

At Syngenta, we use AI, data and advanced analytics to design the next generation of crop protection solutions to help feed the world. Our Crop Protection Digital R&D team is seeking an Information Management & Intelligence Lead to define and drive how R&D transforms scientific information into actionable intelligence at a global scale. You'll be joining an award‑winning team and a company ranked Top 5 employer by Science Journal.

Location

The preferred location is our Jealott's Hill office on a hybrid basis, but a remote contract could be considered for the right candidate. Jealott's Hill International Research Centre UK is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings between Bracknell and Maidenhead and is the place of work for approximately 800 Syngenta scientists and support staff. Jealott’s Hill is one of the main global research and development sites and key activities include research into discovery of new active ingredients, new formulation technologies, product safety and technical support of our product range.

Accountabilities

  • Define and own the R&D Information & Knowledge Strategy and roadmap, aligned with digital transformation and AI priorities.
  • Partner with Digital and Data Leads and senior R&D leaders to align knowledge products with strategic priorities.
  • Translate complex scientific knowledge needs and prioritized use cases into technical solutions and communicate roadmap and value to leadership.
  • Own end‑to‑end information pipelines — from unstructured data ingestion (publications, lab notebooks, regulatory submissions) to exploitable context layer and knowledgebases powered by NLP, LLMs and Agentic AI workflows.
  • Procure and deliver scientific information services, competitive intelligence tools and literature mining platforms, including vendor management.
  • Set governance standards for information quality, lineage and lifecycle across CP R&D, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, IP and data security.
  • Lead cross‑functional matrix teams in Agile delivery of knowledge mining use cases, championing a data‑centric culture.

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership of information, knowledge management or R&D intelligence programs in science‑driven organisations (life‑sciences or chemical industry) — backgrounds in data science, scientific content services, informatics or publishing are all relevant.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on expertise with NLP, text mining and Agentic AI‑powered knowledge extraction and mining of scientific, technical or regulatory content.
  • Strong understanding of data engineering platforms (e.g. Databricks, AWS, data lakehouse architectures).
  • Excellent stakeholder management and matrix leadership skills across scientific, technical and senior audiences.
  • Master's degree in STEM, Data Science, Information Science or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in knowledge graphs, ontologies, semantic search and vector databases.
  • Experience with scientific informatics platforms, tools and workflows.
  • PhD degree in a relevant STEM or Informatics field.
