We're looking for a chemist who thinks in code & data science as comfortably as they think in reactions. Based at our Jealott's Hill research site, you'll join the Physical Organic Chemistry team within the Process Studies Group - a team pushing the boundaries of how chemistry is done, understood, and accelerated. You'll help to develop critical self-driving experimentation that makes our science faster, smarter, and more reproducible - while also delivering your own development projects and working shoulder-to-shoulder with chemists on real research challenges. If you're excited by the journey towards a self-driving, autonomous lab - and you want to do it in an environment where your ideas will actually land - this is the role for you.
Accountabilities
- Design and build automated lab workflows - from hardware integration to data capture - working as part of a team of scientists to accelerate scientific research.
- Build data processing tools - to process, analyse and visualise experimental data, looking for new ways to turn raw results into actionable insight at pace.
- Deliver your own development projects, but differently - taking ideas from concept to completion while contributing to the broader digital transformation of our research practice.
- Work at the interface of chemistry and data science - collaborating closely with the physical organic chemistry group to translate scientific problems into digital solutions and accelerate experimental interpretation.
- Explore and adopt emerging tools in digital chemistry - moving the organisation towards a self-driving, autonomous lab for process understanding.
- Bring curiosity and a problem solving mindset - we care more about how you think than ticking every box on a skills list.
Qualifications
- BSc or MSc in Chemistry, Digital Chemistry or a related discipline.
- Laboratory and automation skills - with experience applying them to scientific problems.
- Application of data science and quantitative analysis to interpret chemical systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively across chemistry and digital disciplines.
- A genuine interest in how technology can transform laboratory research.
