We have an exciting opportunity for a lab-based Senior Protein Scientist specialising in recombinant protein production. Within this hands-on role you will focus on protein expression, purification, and characterization, with emphasis on troubleshooting complex protein production challenges, while being responsible for developing and optimizing protein production workflows, including method development and scale-up processes.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Executing and troubleshooting protein expression and purification projects, while developing robust and scalable processes.
- Optimizing protein expression conditions across various systems (E.coli, Pichia, cell free) to maximize yield and quality.
- Designing and implementing purification strategies for challenging proteins.
- Performing protein quantification and characterization using various analytical and biophysical techniques.
- Developing and validating high-throughput protein production workflows using automated systems using established SOPs with further optimisation where necessary.
- Maintaining accurate experimental records with ability to analyse complex datasets.
- Communication project results.
- Ensuring compliance with company HSE policies.
Qualifications
What we are looking for:
- PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or related fields or BSc/MSc with extensive relevant laboratory experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in construct design, protein expression and purification, with demonstrated troubleshooting abilities.
- Expertise in protein purification techniques (affinity, IEX, HIC, SEC).
- Practical knowledge of protein characterization methods.
- Experience with various expression systems (E. coli, Pichia, cell free).
Desirable experience:
- Experience with difficult-to-express proteins with construct design knowledge.
- Knowledge of high-throughput protein production workflows with interest in automating protein expression pipelines.
- Experience with automated liquid handling systems (e.g., Tecan) would be a plus.
- Understanding of design of Experiments (DoE) with the mindset of process optimisation.
- Knowledge of analytical techniques (SEC-MALS, DSF, CD, DLS).
