We are working with a leading design and build contractor to appoint an experienced Mechanical Services Design Manager to support a strong and growing pipeline of large-scale residential, student accommodation, and hotel developments. This is a senior role suited to a technically strong mechanical professional who can lead design delivery across complex, high-value projects from pre-construction through to completion.
The Role
As Mechanical Services Design Manager, you will take ownership of the mechanical design function across multiple design and build schemes, ensuring technical quality, buildability, and commercial alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Leading and managing the mechanical design process on large-scale D&B projects
- Managing external mechanical consultants and ensuring design deliverables meet programme, budget, and employer's requirements
- Providing technical leadership during bid, pre-construction, and delivery stages
- Reviewing and challenging designs to ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and best practice
- Driving coordination between mechanical, electrical, public health, BIM, commercial, and construction teams
- Supporting value engineering and alternative design solutions while maintaining performance and quality
- Assisting site teams with technical queries, design reviews, and issue resolution
About You
This opportunity would suit a confident and commercially aware mechanical design leader with experience delivering complex, multi-unit developments. You will ideally have:
- Proven experience in mechanical services design management within a D&B environment
- A strong background in large-scale residential, student accommodation, or hotel projects
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, central plant, energy strategies, and low-carbon technologies
- Experience managing teams and coordinating multidisciplinary designs
- A clear understanding of buildability, procurement routes, and contractor-led design
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams and clients
