We are working with a leading design and build contractor to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the delivery of large-scale residential, student accommodation, and hotel developments across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically biased building services engineer to work on complex, high-value design and build projects from concept through to construction.

The Role

As Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and coordination of mechanical building services systems within a contractor-led D&B environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing mechanical building services designs across multiple D&B projects
  • Designing HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, and domestic services systems
  • Supporting pre-construction, tender, and delivery teams with technical input
  • Working closely with BIM and coordination teams to ensure buildable and coordinated designs
  • Reviewing and responding to technical queries and design changes during construction
  • Assisting with value engineering, energy strategies, and low-carbon solutions
  • Ensuring designs comply with current regulations, standards, and employer’s requirements

About You

We are seeking a motivated and technically competent mechanical engineer with experience in complex, multi-unit developments. You will ideally have:

  • Experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer within building services
  • Exposure to design and build projects, ideally within residential, student accommodation, or hotel sectors
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems and central plant
  • Experience producing calculations, specifications, and technical reports
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, consultants, and site staff
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services (or equivalent)
