The Role
As an Electrical Estimator, you will be responsible for producing accurate, competitive, and commercially focused estimates for electrical projects from tender stage through to handover. Working closely with internal teams, suppliers, subcontractors, consultants, and customers, you will play a key role in identifying opportunities, managing costs, and ensuring successful project wins. This is a permanent, site-based role located from the Leicester office.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed electrical cost estimates and tender submissions.
- Review technical drawings, specifications, and contract documentation.
- Complete quantity take-offs, cost analysis, and pricing assessments.
- Obtain, assess, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Identify potential risks, exclusions, and commercial opportunities during the tender process.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure bid requirements are met.
- Attend site surveys and pre-tender meetings when required.
- Maintain accurate estimating records, databases, and pricing schedules.
- Support value engineering initiatives and cost-saving proposals.
- Assist with the successful transition of projects from tender award into delivery.
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- Previous experience working as an Electrical Estimator within an electrical contracting or construction environment.
- Strong technical understanding of electrical installations, systems, and project delivery processes.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Strong commercial awareness with excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- Experience using estimating software and Microsoft Office packages.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and work effectively to deadlines.
Desirable:
- Electrical qualification such as NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent.
- Experience estimating commercial, industrial, or large-scale electrical projects.
- Knowledge of current electrical standards, regulations, and industry practices.
- Membership of a relevant professional body.
