Synergy Personnel Ltd are currently recruiting for Electricians for a project in Southampton, Hampshire - This is a direct role with an M&E company.
Job Specification:
- Position Title: Electrician (Industrial / COMPEX)
- Location: UK Oil Refinery Site (Project-based)
- Contract Type: Project-based (duration depending on project scope)
- Working Hours: Site-based hours, typically 40–60 hours per week with potential overtime and shift work depending on project phase.
Role Purpose
To carry out electrical installation, maintenance, within a refinery environment, ensuring compliance with UK regulations, site safety standards, and hazardous-area requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical Installation & Maintenance
- Install and maintain industrial electrical systems, including:
- Cable containment (tray, ladder, conduit)
- LV power distribution systems
- Motors, panels, and control systems
- Instrumentation power and signal cabling
- Carry out termination, glanding, and connection of cables to industrial equipment.
- Hazardous Area Work
- Work in ATEX / hazardous environments in accordance with:
- BS EN 60079 series
- IECEx / COMPEX standards
- Install and maintain equipment certified for Zone 1 & Zone 2 areas.
- Compliance & Safety
- Follow all refinery site safety rules, PTW systems, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with:
- BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations)
- UK Health & Safety legislation
- Company and refinery-specific procedures
- Report hazards, incidents, and near misses immediately.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Complete daily job sheets, test records, permits, and inspection documents.
- Support QA/QC requirements during construction and commissioning phases.
- Teamwork & Communication
- Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and other trades.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
- Industrial electrical experience, ideally within petrochemical, refinery, heavy industrial, or hazardous environments.
- Ability to read and work from technical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Strong understanding of safe isolation procedures.
Qualifications
- COMPEX Ex01–Ex04
- ECS / JIB Gold Card (electrician).
- Previous experience on shutdowns/turnarounds.
- Confined space training.
- CCNSG Safety Passport or equivalent refinery safety training.

Physical Requirements
