About the role
We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our growing team in Portsmouth. This is an office-based role with the opportunity to take on some Quantity Surveying responsibilities. You will play a key part in pricing projects accurately, managing costs, and supporting the commercial success of a range of residential and commercial construction projects.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and tenders from drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities
- Measure quantities and assist in preparing bills of quantities
- Obtain, analyse, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving options
- Support cost control throughout the project lifecycle
- Assist with valuations, variations, and final accounts (QS duties)
- Work closely with project managers, site teams, and directors
- Maintain and develop relationships with clients and supply chain partners
About you
- Previous experience as a Construction Estimator (experience in Quantity Surveying a strong advantage)
- Background within small to medium sized construction or contracting environment preferred
- Strong knowledge of UK construction methods, materials, and regulations
- Proficient in take-offs, measurement, and pricing using industry software/Excel
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and negotiation skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Confident communicator with a collaborative approach
