Freelance Mechanical Commissioning Manager

Location: Bristol, Portsmouth & surrounding areas

Contract Type: Freelance / Contract

Synergy Mission Control Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Commissioning Manager to support our expanding portfolio of data centre projects. This freelance role offers flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to work with a forward‑thinking team delivering high‑performance mechanical systems across cutting‑edge environments.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead Commissioning Activities: Plan, execute, and oversee the commissioning of mechanical systems including HVAC, hydronic systems, smoke control, and building automation (BAS and BMS). All delivered within the L1-L5 ASHRAE Commissioning framework as per Data Centre industry standards.
  • System Validation: Perform functional testing, calibration, and performance verification of mechanical installations to ensure compliance with design and operational standards.
  • Troubleshooting & Resolution: Identify issues during commissioning and collaborate with engineers and contractors to implement timely solutions.
  • Documentation & Handover: Produce detailed commissioning reports, maintain test records, and support client handover with clear performance data.
  • Client Liaison: Act as the commissioning point of contact for clients, providing updates and technical insights throughout the process.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience in mechanical commissioning for commercial or industrial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ductwork, VAVs, hydronics, and BMS.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • An emphasis on safety across the project.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Data centre experience is a plus, but not essential.
