ABOUT SYNERGIZE

Synergize is one of the UK's leading specialists in refurbishment, planned maintenance and building remediation, delivering high-quality projects across both the public and private sectors. Since 2004, we’ve built our reputation on delivering complex programmes safely, efficiently and to the highest standards - with expertise spanning planned maintenance, refurbishment, external wall remediation and energy efficiency improvements.

Today, Synergize forms part of Grosvenor House Group (GHG) - a growing national group bringing together specialist businesses across facilities management, refurbishment, passive fire protection and property services. Being part of GHG means combining the agility and close-knit culture of a specialist contractor with the stability, investment and long-term opportunities of a larger organisation delivering projects across the UK.

As our business continues to grow, we’re looking for talented people who want to make a genuine impact, help shape the future of the business, and develop their careers within an ambitious and expanding group.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Design Manager, you’ll become the technical authority responsible for leading design across our growing portfolio of complex remediation and refurbishment projects. Working at the heart of the business, you’ll bridge the gap between Pre-Construction and Operations, ensuring every project is technically robust, compliant and fully coordinated before work begins on site.

You’ll be influencing project outcomes from the earliest stages, leading multidisciplinary design teams, navigating the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) Gateway process and ensuring our projects meet the highest standards of technical compliance.

You’ll work directly with clients, architects, structural engineers, fire engineers and specialist consultants throughout the PCSA period, providing expert guidance while helping shape solutions that are both buildable and commercially successful.

As Synergize continues to expand its Building Remediation division, you’ll play a central role in helping secure future work, maintaining our reputation for technical excellence and ensuring we continue delivering projects safely and successfully.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the design management process across multiple remediation and refurbishment projects.
  • Acting as the technical link between Pre-Construction and Operational delivery teams.
  • Coordinating architects, structural engineers, fire engineers and specialist consultants throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Managing design throughout the PCSA period, ensuring projects are fully coordinated before construction.
  • Driving compliance with the Building Safety Act and Building Safety Regulator requirements.
  • Leading Gateway 2 submissions and supporting projects through Gateway 3 approval.
  • Managing the Golden Thread of information using Bolster and ensuring accurate project records are maintained.
  • Attending client meetings to provide technical leadership and design updates.
  • Reviewing design information, identifying technical risks and implementing practical solutions.
  • Supporting tender submissions by providing technical expertise during bid development.
  • Working closely with Commercial, Operational and Project teams to ensure designs remain compliant, buildable and commercially viable.
  • Championing best practice across design management as the business continues to grow.

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for an experienced Design Manager with the technical credibility, commercial awareness and leadership skills to become one of the key technical figures within our business.

You’ll have significant experience managing complex construction design, a thorough understanding of the current building safety landscape and the confidence to challenge, influence and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Around 15 years’ experience within Design Management or a similar technical construction role.
  • Extensive experience delivering refurbishment, remediation or residential construction projects.
  • A strong understanding of the Building Safety Act, Building Safety Regulator requirements and Gateway processes.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams through complex projects.
  • Excellent knowledge of structural and fire engineering principles.
  • Experience coordinating design throughout the PCSA phase.
  • Knowledge of Golden Thread requirements and digital information management platforms such as Bolster.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build credibility at every level.
  • Chartered status (RIBA, CIOB, ICE or similar) would be advantageous but is not essential.

WHY JOIN SYNERGIZE?

This is an exciting opportunity to join Synergize at a defining point in our growth. We’re already delivering major remediation schemes across the UK, with live projects in Hull, Derby and Bristol, alongside a growing national pipeline of work. Following successful Building Safety Regulator approvals, we’ve strengthened relationships with leading clients, including securing a place on Barratt Homes’ tender framework, opening the door to a significant long-term pipeline of future projects.

With further remediation schemes progressing through the PCSA stage and Gateway process, there has never been a better time to join. This role offers the opportunity to become one of the technical leaders within the business, influencing project success from concept through to completion while helping shape the future of our Building Remediation division.
