Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Engineer with strong experience in state machine logic and SQL-based backends to support the evolution of a Traffic Management System (TMS) used in secure container screening environments.
This role focuses on enhancing the coordination and communication between dual-lane Digital Image Systems (DIS). The successful candidate will design, implement, and optimise control logic to support traffic management across two independently functioning lanes, ensuring real-time decision-making, failover resilience, and synchronised system state.
Key Responsibilities:
· Design and implement state machine logic to manage system states across dual DIS lanes.
· Integrate and optimise the SQL backend to support traffic flow data, system state tracking, and recovery/failover capability.
· Enable real-time synchronisation between two DIS lanes to allow collective traffic management.
· Collaborate with software engineers, systems architects, and business analysts to translate requirements into robust system behaviour.
· Support development and integration of new control workflows within the TMS environment.
· Ensure the system supports failover and recovery mechanisms to maintain traffic continuity during disruptions.
· Conduct unit and integration testing, system validation, and performance tuning.
· Document design, configuration, and transition states for all key system functions.
· Strong experience with finite state machines (FSM) or similar state-based control architectures.
· Proficient in designing and managing SQL databases, including query optimisation, data integrity, and fault tolerance.
· Experience with real-time or event-driven systems, ideally within transport, screening, or automation environments.
· Familiarity with dual-lane system integration, synchronisation logic, and concurrent data handling.
· Ability to reverse engineer legacy system behaviour to support modernisation efforts.
· Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate in high-assurance or secure environments.
· Clear, structured documentation and technical reporting skills.
· Knowledge of Digital Image Systems (DIS) or container screening platforms.
· Experience working in secure infrastructure or mission-critical environments.
· Familiarity with traffic automation systems, SCADA, or sensor-driven control systems.
· Experience working in cross-disciplinary engineering teams, including software and systems integration.
