You'll act as the architectural focal point for Software Engineering, working closely with Product Owners, Delivery Managers, Engineers and other architects to shape the wider Digital Engineering landscape.
What you'll be doing:
- Own and develop the Software Engineering architecture within the wider Digital Engineering environment
- Produce and maintain High-Level and Low-Level Designs (HLD/LLD)
- Architect modern software development / Software Factory environments
- Integrate architecture across people, process and technology
- Support Digital Twin and Digital Thread capabilities across the engineering lifecycle
- Provide architectural leadership across software engineering, systems, data and technology domains
- Ensure solutions meet Secure by Design, governance, security and compliance requirements
- Translate enterprise architecture principles into practical solution designs, standards and roadmaps
- Identify opportunities for architectural reuse across Digital Engineering value streams
- Support technology evaluations, proofs of concept and strategic platform/tool selection
- Work with internal engineering teams, suppliers and Defence Prime stakeholders
- Support RFIs/RFQs and wider technical decision-making
- Drive innovation and adoption of emerging engineering technologies
We're particularly interested in speaking with architects who have:
- Active SC clearance – this is mandatory; DV clearance would be highly advantageous
- Strong architecture experience within MOD, Defence Digital, UK Defence Primes or aerospace programmes
- 5+ years' Enterprise, Solution or Business Architecture experience
- Experience architecting software engineering/development environments
- Understanding of architecture across the full systems engineering lifecycle
- Strong knowledge of Digital Engineering principles
- Experience with Digital Thread and/or Digital Twin concepts
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and cloud architecture
- Knowledge of CI/CD and DevSecOps environments
- Experience working with recognised architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and/or ArchiMate
- Strong stakeholder management across engineering, architecture, delivery and product teams
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, SAFe, Power BI, data architecture/warehousing or transnational engineering programmes would also be beneficial.
- Relevant certifications such as TOGAF, Azure/AWS Architect, CISSP or ArchiMate would be highly desirable.
Why this role?
This isn't simply a traditional Enterprise Architecture position. You'll be working at the intersection of enterprise architecture, software engineering, systems engineering and Digital Engineering, helping shape the architecture that enables complex next-generation defence and aerospace programmes. You'll have the opportunity to influence how modern Software Factory capabilities integrate into the wider engineering ecosystem while helping establish the Digital Thread and Digital Twin capabilities required across the engineering lifecycle.
Clearance: Active SC mandatory; DV preferred
Sector: Defence / Aerospace / Digital Engineering
If you're a security cleared architect with strong Defence/Aerospace and Software Engineering architecture experience, we'd be very interested in hearing from you.
