We are supporting a major secure engineering programme within a globally recognised defence and technology environment and are looking for an experienced SC Cleared Senior Human Factors Specialist to join a high-performing multidisciplinary team during a key testing and integration phase.

Location: Hybrid: WFH and near Portsmouth – 3 days onsite

Duration: ASAP to Jan 2027 initially

This role will suit candidates with strong experience across both traditional Human Factors / Ergonomics and modern digital User-Centred Design environments.

Key experience required:

  • Human Factors Integration (HFI) within complex systems programmes
  • User-Centred Design (UCD), UX, software usability or HMI design
  • Human Factors assessments including workload, human error, usability and situational awareness
  • Supporting design reviews, testing, evaluation and acceptance activities
  • Working within defence or other safety-critical environments
  • Experience collaborating across engineering, software and integration teams

Ideal background:

  • Defence, aerospace, naval, secure government or other highly regulated industries
  • Knowledge of Def Stan 00-251 and/or MIL-STD-1472
  • Strong understanding of engineering lifecycle and systems integration
  • Chartered Institute of Human Factors membership (or working towards)

Requirements:

  • SC Clearance preferred (can start on BPSS while clearance progresses)
  • Minimum 5 years’ Human Factors experience
  • Degree qualified in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Psychology or Engineering
