Enterprise Architect – Digital Engineering (Software Engineering) Location: Reading HQ – 2–3 days onsite per week Rate: Up to £100 per hour Inside IR35 Clearance: Active SC mandatory; DV preferred We are seeking an experienced, security-cleared Enterprise Architect – Software Engineering to support a major Defence and Aerospace programme. You will lead the integration of a Software Factory into the wider Digital Engineering environment, aligning people, processes and technology with architectural strategy, governance and Secure by Design principles. You will help shape solutions supporting Digital Twin, Digital Thread and the wider systems engineering lifecycle . Key Responsibilities ·
Develop and maintain High-Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs). ·
Lead Software Factory integration across the Digital Engineering environment. ·
Provide architectural leadership across people, processes and technology. ·
Ensure compliance with security, governance and Secure by Design requirements. ·
Drive architectural reuse, innovation and best practice. ·
Support technology evaluations, proofs of concept, and RFI/RFQ activities. Essential Skills & Experience ·
5+ years' experience in Solution/Enterprise Architecture, Business Architecture or a related discipline. ·
Experience architecting software development environments within MOD, Defence Digital or UK Aerospace and Defence. ·
Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks, such as TOGAF or ArchiMate. ·
Understanding of system, data and technical architecture across the engineering lifecycle. ·
Experience with Microsoft Azure, CI/CD and DevSecOps. ·
Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes and modern software engineering practices. ·
Understanding of Digital Twin and Digital Thread concepts. ·
Strong stakeholder management, architectural governance and roadmap development skills. ·
Experience working in Agile environments; SAFe knowledge or certification desirable. Active SC clearance is essential, with DV preferred. Candidates must be able to work onsite in Reading and support sensitive Defence and Aerospace programmes.
