Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer (Mechanical Bias)
Location: Stevenage, Hertfordshire
Salary: £50,000 - £53,000 per annum
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (Days & Nights)
The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Multi-Skilled Shift Engineers to join a leading FMCG manufacturing business within the snack-food sector. The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining and improving production equipment, minimising downtime, and ensuring maximum plant reliability within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This role is mechanically biased but requires strong electrical fault-finding capabilities.
Shift Pattern
- 4 on / 4 off rotating shift pattern
- Two weeks of days: 7:00am - 7:00pm
- Two weeks of nights: 7:00pm - 7:00am
- 12-hour shifts
Key Responsibilities
- Reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
- Electrical and mechanical fault diagnosis and repair
- Welding and fabrication work
- Equipment modifications and continuous improvement projects
- Root cause analysis of recurring faults
- Reducing downtime and improving machine reliability
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records via CMMS
- Supporting food safety, GMP and health & safety standards

The successful engineer will work on a variety of manufacturing and packaging equipment including:
- Extruders
- Ovens
- Fryers
- Heat exchangers
- Conveyors
- Gearboxes
- Motors
- Air compressors
- Pneumatic systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Ishida Atlas & Inspira packaging machinery
- TNA baggers
- Ishida & Yamato multihead weighers
- PLC-controlled equipment
- Variable Speed Drives (VSDs)
- Sensors and PCBs
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 3 years' experience within FMCG or manufacturing
- Strong mechanical fault-finding skills
- Experience working with conveyors, motors, gearboxes, xgikmsk hydraulics and pneumatics
- Electrical fault-finding experience on industrial machinery
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Ability to read technical drawings
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement
Desirable
- 18th Edition Qualification
- PLC fault-finding experience
- Experience with CMMS systems (Pirana advantageous)
- Lean Six Sigma knowledge
- Food Safety Level 2
- Packaging machinery experience
