Job Role & Key Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Supervisor to lead a skilled engineering team within a highly automated manufacturing environment. This is a hands‑on leadership role, combining team supervision with day‑to‑day engineering support to ensure equipment reliability, minimise downtime and maintain high operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and develop the engineering team to achieve strong performance and engagement
  • Plan and coordinate daily maintenance activities across engineers and contractors
  • Manage planned and reactive maintenance activities to maximise equipment reliability
  • Drive improvements across PPM systems, downtime reduction and engineering standards
  • Provide technical support and escalation for breakdowns when required
  • Work closely with production, planning and management teams to prioritise engineering activities
  • Ensure all engineering work is completed safely and in line with compliance, audit and site standards
  • Manage contractor activities and support engineering projects
  • Maintain high standards around food safety, hygiene, contamination control and engineering best practice
  • Support budget management and continuous improvement initiatives

The Ideal Candidate will have

  • Experience leading or supervising an engineering team within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
  • Strong mechanical or electrical engineering background
  • ONC / HNC or equivalent engineering qualification
  • Experience managing planned and reactive maintenance activities
  • Good understanding of PPM systems and reliability improvements
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A hands‑on approach with the ability to balance leadership responsibilities with practical engineering support
  • Experience working within a 24/7 production environment

Desirable Skills

  • Experience within food manufacturing, FMCG or process manufacturing
  • Experience in highly automated production environments
  • Contractor management experience
  • Experience supporting engineering projects and budgets
  • Knowledge of statutory compliance and audit requirements
  • Electrical fault‑finding experience including controls, sensors, motors, drives and automated equipment
  • Mechanical experience with conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, pumps, pneumatics and production machinery
  • PLC fault finding experience
  • Experience improving maintenance systems and reducing downtime
