Job Role & Key Responsibilities
The Lead Engineer will act as the deputy to the Engineering Manager, providing leadership and technical direction to the engineering team. This role plays a key part in driving operational performance, improving equipment efficiency, and embedding a strong safety and continuous improvement culture across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, support and mentor the engineering team with hands-on technical guidance
- Deputise for the Engineering Manager, including oversight of activities and budgets when required
- Ensure planned preventative maintenance, corrective works, SSOWs and engineering procedures are consistently followed
- Work closely with Production to improve equipment performance and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
- Support installation, testing, operation and maintenance of all site equipment and facilities
- Promote compliance with health, safety, quality and environmental standards
- Support training for engineers and operators on new and existing equipment
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including sustainability and waste/energy reduction projects
- Source parts and machinery through approved suppliers
Qualifications
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- Proven experience in industrial maintenance or production environments
- Previous supervisory or management experience
- Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills
- Ability to build effective working relationships across teams
- A proactive, analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- Financial awareness, including budgeting and forecasting experience
- Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office
Desirable Skills
- NEBOSH, IOSH or QHSE-related qualifications
- Experience in energy and sustainability management
- Background in continuous improvement programmes
- Relevant engineering qualification (Degree, HND, HNC, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or time-served apprenticeship)
- Bi-lingual capability
