The Medical Affairs Lead oversees all aspects of planning, development, and execution of resources and strategies that support and drive the client’s Medical Affairs business within Anti‑Infectives. The role serves as a liaison between Syneos Health functions and the client, collaborating across teams to deliver integrated Medical Affairs solutions.
Responsibilities include:
- Be the client’s primary point of contact for all matters related to Medical Affairs project work among Syneos internal departments/business units and the client.
- Act as a role model, embracing and operationalizing the Full‑Service Commercial Model.
- Serve as a senior strategic partner with client senior management, recommending strategies and tactics aligned with the client’s best interest.
- Take ownership of the project internal P&L, synchronizing business planning timelines and due dates with the financial business calendar and ensuring all stakeholders receive consistent updates.
- Lead the development and future evolution of the Medical Affairs strategy in partnership with the broader Syneos Team.
- Oversee execution, ensuring deliverables, timelines and budget meet quality, on‑time, and on‑budget standards.
- Monitor and report on performance/progress across Medical Affairs functions, as part of a Core Team that includes all internal and client‑based functions aligned to the brand.
- Anticipate client needs and issues proactively, collaborating to develop effective solutions.
- Lead weekly Medical Affairs sub‑team meetings to discuss project status, major milestones, and key deliverables, ensuring timely completion of all open projects.
- Work collaboratively with other Functional Leads and overall Market Access and Commercial Leads to manage client and internal stakeholder relationships and effectively manage Commercial Program scope and delivery.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager and PMO function to ensure real‑time reporting and tracking of all Medical Affairs activities and deliverables.
- Apply personal knowledge and operational experience to ensure quality and successful delivery throughout the project life cycle.
- Develop senior leadership and ad‑hoc presentations and training as needed.
- Provide direction for work delegated to additional vendor partners (outside Syneos) to ensure quality and timely completion of deliverables or services.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred with extensive related work experience. MD, PharmD or PhD preferred.
- Proven leadership and influencing experience within a complex, heavily matrixed environment.
- Ability to understand global medical and healthcare system trends, financial data, customer insights, and translate competitive intelligence into actionable short‑ and long‑term actions.
- European launch experience across multiple pharmaceutical and therapeutic areas, including Infectious Disease and Oncology.
- Demonstrated commercial ability and business acumen, including strategic and tactical planning and execution.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate with others to achieve mutual objectives within Syneos, external partners, and the client.
- Excellent Project Management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong self‑awareness and emotional intelligence for effective change leadership.
- Strong leadership attributes: setting direction, generating commitment, balancing short‑ and long‑term needs, and constructively resolving issues.
- Ability to work in a time zone comparable to the client’s.
- Ability to travel as needed.
