If you're a bioinformatician who loves analysing NGS data, building automation pipelines, solving technical challenges, and contributing to the development of a breakthrough technology, this role offers a chance to make a real impact early in your career. You'll join the bioinformatics team at Syndex Bio, a life-science startup developing mcPCRâ„¢, a proprietary and transformational technology that amplifies DNA while preserving methylation information.
This is a hands-on, computer-based role where you'll design and run analysis pipelines, support technology characterisation, and help drive improvements in product performance and robustness. You'll be exposed to every dimension of the technology — from data production and storage to analysis and clinical application — and work closely with both bioinformaticians and wet-lab scientists.
What You'll Do
- Support the characterisation and improvement of our proprietary mcPCR technology.
- Analyse NGS DNA methylation data across all types of sequencing platforms.
- Work with diverse sample types and data types from human and model organisms.
- Design, build, and run analysis pipelines on AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot pipeline errors and perform QC on datasets.
- Contribute to company data infrastructure — including standard formats, documentation, and storage.
- Set up systems for data exchange with external collaborators.
- Present analysis findings to project teams and help translate results into technology improvements.
- Contribute to novel analyses harnessing methylation data for diagnostic applications.
What You Bring
- A combination of life-science knowledge and technical skills is key. We're looking for someone who can bridge both worlds.
- Education: BSc in Life Sciences (Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics, or similar). MSc in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 1–2 years of bioinformatics experience, ideally in an industry setting.
- Skills required for the role: NGS data analysis (alignment, variant calling, methylation calling). Proficiency in Python with version control (Git). Experience building or maintaining bioinformatics pipelines would be an advantage.
- Desirable (but not essential): AWS experience, particularly S3 for data exchange or EC2 for running pipelines. Experience managing data exchange with collaborators (data transfer agreements, manifests, standard formats). Exposure to the diagnostics or clinical assay space. Statistics or quantitative analysis skills. Writing or working with SOPs. Multi-modal data analysis. Familiarity with AI/ML approaches in genomics. Experience communicating with wet-lab scientists.
Mindset
- Strong experimental design and troubleshooting instincts.
- Ability to analyse data and communicate findings clearly.
- A proactive, collaborative attitude and genuine enthusiasm for learning.
- Resilient and resourceful — willing to dig into technical problems and iterate until they're solved.
Why Join Us?
- Work on a genuinely novel technology with the potential to transform diagnostics.
- Join a supportive team that values curiosity, creativity, and continuous learning.
- Get exposure to every stage of a life-science startup.
