SymphonyAI is seeking a Functional Consultant specialising in sanctions, PEP and adverse media screening, transaction monitoring, and broader financial crime compliance. This is a dual-mandate role: trusted advisor to financial institutions on regulatory obligations, risk appetite, and operating model — and hands-on practitioner who personally configures, tunes, and optimises SymphonyAI solutions on live project engagements.

This is not an advisory-only position. A significant portion of time is spent in the product: calibrating thresholds, optimising matching logic, and reducing false positives — alongside leading workshops, shaping solution designs, and challenging client thinking with an AI-first mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Personally configure, tune, and optimise SymphonyAI screening and financial crime solutions on client projects: threshold calibration, matching logic, segmentation, list management, and false-positive reduction.
  • Design and run testing and validation exercises that demonstrably improve detection quality and operational efficiency; analyse system performance and alert outcomes to drive improvements.
  • Deliver implementation workstreams end to end: process design, configuration, controls testing, and user training.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Data Science to feed field insight into product innovation.
  • Run workshops and discovery sessions to gather requirements, define use cases, and align solutions to client priorities, risk appetite, and regulatory obligations.
  • Translate requirements into functional solution designs, workflows, and implementation recommendations; conduct gap analyses and remediation roadmaps.
  • Act as a trusted advisor across client Compliance, Risk, Operations, and Technology teams — challenging existing methodologies to drive better outcomes.
  • Advise customers on applying predictive AI, generative AI, and automation to improve screening accuracy, reduce false positives, and lift investigator productivity.
  • Contribute to the Financial Crime Compliance Centre of Excellence: tuning methodologies, playbooks, and accelerators.
  • Produce high-quality functional documentation, tuning reports, and implementation guidance; mentor junior consultants.

Requirements

Must-Have

  • Demonstrable hands-on experience configuring, tuning, calibrating, and optimising financial crime or screening solutions — candidates must evidence tuning work personally executed, not overseen.
  • 8+ years in financial crime compliance, sanctions, AML/KYC, or screening — in financial institutions, RegTech vendors, or professional services.
  • Deep knowledge of end-to-end financial crime processes (onboarding, KYC/KYB, CDD/EDD, screening, monitoring, investigations, SAR/STR) and of typologies, evasion techniques, and detection methodologies.
  • Strong working knowledge of global regulatory frameworks (e.g. FATF, FCA, FinCEN, EU AMLD/AMLR, CBUAE) and of screening data providers such as World-Check (LSEG) and Dow Jones.
  • Strong consulting presence: proven experience running workshops and engaging senior compliance, risk, operations, and technology stakeholders up to C-suite; excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Proficiency with SQL and data analysis for tuning and compliance insight (e.g. Power BI, Alteryx, or equivalent).

Preferred

  • Experience with screening/monitoring platforms such as SymphonyAI NetReveal, Fircosoft, SAS, or equivalent; exposure to AI-enabled compliance technologies.
  • Professional certifications: CAMS, CAMI, or ICA/MOET AML/CFT.
  • Cloud SaaS implementation experience; exposure to transaction monitoring model tuning or fraud detection.
  • Background in RegTech, Big 4 / specialised compliance consulting, or financial crime transformation programmes.
