Role Description
Symphony is looking for a driven Security Placement Student to join our team.
In this role, you will gain hands‑on experience in protecting critical infrastructure, learning how modern secure communications operate, and supporting our security operations, risk management, and compliance initiatives.
You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to help monitor, assess, and strengthen our security posture while developing core skills in modern information security practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Security Monitoring & Incident Support: Assist the Security Operations Center (SOC) team in monitoring alerts, analyzing logs, and triaging potential security events.
- Vulnerability & Asset Assessment: Support routine vulnerability scans, assist in tracking remediation progress, and help maintain accurate technical asset inventories.
- Identity & Access Management (IAM): Help audit user permissions, access controls, and multi‑factor authentication systems across internal tools and cloud environments.
- Security Awareness: Help draft internal security communications, phishing simulations, and educational materials for employees.
- Compliance & Risk Support: Assist with gathering evidence and documentation for third‑party security audits, ISO/SOC 2 certifications, and internal risk assessments.
- Automation & Scripting: (Optional) Write basic scripts (Python, Bash, or Power Shell) to automate repetitive security tasks and logging processes.
Qualifications
- Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.

Knowledge: Basic understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs), operating systems (Linux, Windows), and core cybersecurity principles (encryption, authentication, access control).

- Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills, comfortable interacting with technical and non‑technical team members.
