Symphony Healthcare Services is recruiting a Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our existing team within the West Somerset Primary Care Network, based at Williton Hospital and Minehead Medical Centre. As an HCA, you will be responsible for delivering NHS Health Checks, cardiovascular assessments, phlebotomy, and a range of routine clinical tasks while supporting the GP surgeries and the central PCN team. You will work with patients in the community, care homes and within the surgeries to promote health and prevent serious conditions such as heart disease and diabetes. The role is a fixed‑term contract of 24 to 37.5 hours per week. Pay is £12.71 to £12.95 per hour, with salary offered based on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct new patient health checks, including BMI measurement
- Perform urinalysis, ECGs and advanced vascular testing (Doppler, Coagucheck, INR Star)
- Record INR and monitor using Coagucheck
- Blood pressure monitoring and issue home blood pressure monitoring devices in line with practice policy
- Carry out phlebotomy for routine and specialist blood tests (annual blood tests, ACR, MSU)
- Administer influenza and B12 vaccines per PSD
- Assist with minor dressings, wound care and suture removal
- Support weight management initiatives and health promotion activities
- Chaperone patients during procedures
- Process and manage laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
- Maintain and restock surgical and vaccine supplies, and keep consulting rooms tidy
- Assist GPs in minor operations, coils and implants as required
- Explore and raise awareness of health and well-being promotion with patients
