Symphony Healthcare Services has an exciting opportunity for GPs to join the team at The Meadows Surgery in Ilminster, Somerset, on a permanent basis. We currently have two vacant sessions to fill.
The Meadows Surgery has 4,500 patients. Ilminster is a historic market town in the South of Somerset, known for its honey‑coloured Hamstone buildings, independent shops, and rich Saxon history.
Ilminster offers a vibrant community atmosphere with a weekly Thursday market, the Warehouse Theatre, and proximity to the Blackdown Hills and Jurassic Coast. The town features attractive architecture, a bustling town centre, and convenient transport links via the A303, nestled conveniently between the larger towns of Taunton and Yeovil.
Working as an autonomous practitioner, you will be responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care while complying with the GMS contract.
You will carry out all the duties reasonably expected of an NHS general practitioner using the standards expected by the GMC & RCGP.
Main duties of the jobAs a Symphony GP, you would undertake all the clinical duties associated with a GP working in primary care, without the responsibilities and risks associated with being a partner. We can offer opportunities from salaried through to employed and consultant level GP posts depending on your experience and the level of responsibility you take on at the practice.
All Symphony GPs are paid as employees, unlike partners, which means less risk for you and more time to focus on patient care. We put patients first, with our employed and consultant GPs working flexibly according to need, contributing to areas such as QOF, QI, training and research projects, providing a huge amount of variety to the role. Our salaried GPs have a clearly defined job plan setting out the hours of work, responsibility and tasks associated with the role.
Through annual appraisal, we encourage career development and progression and are keen to support GPs who wish to extend their role, or have specialist skills which can be utilised in primary care. We recognise that some GPs will wish to stay salaried, and some will wish to assume more responsibility once they have found their feet and aspire to employed or consultant roles.
Please see attached Job description and person specification for a full breakdown of the role and responsibilities.
Benefits- Flexible roles and working options

- Freedom to join our in‑house GP locum agency, Symphony Flex, with additional competitive pay rates
- A medical practitioner whose name is included in the General Practitioner Register under article 10 of the General and Specialist Medical Practice Order 2003
- Not subject to suspension under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983
- Qualified General Practitioner (completed certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
- Currently on a performers list and not suspended from that list or from the medical register
- Accredited as a member of the Royal College Of General Practitioners (MRCGP) MBBS or equivalent medical degree
