Symmons Madge Associates is seeking experienced engineers to join our team of freelance associate tutors, who develop and deliver specialist engineering courses online and in-person. With clients across the UK looking to Symmons Madge Associates for the latest engineering guidance and insight, you’ll be joining a pool of specialists to deliver courses that help to keep your industry sharp and up to date.

The Role

You’ll design and deliver training on a subject outlined below, helping engineers apply the latest standards and best practice to real projects. Courses are typically six hours, though timing can be adapted to suit the tutor, client, delegates, and course content. Delivery can be online via Microsoft Teams, as well as in‑house at client’s chosen venues/workplaces across the UK, to be discussed upon application.

We’re currently seeking subject specialists for the following courses:

  • Chapter 8 Traffic Management
  • Bridge Inspection, Maintenance and Repairs
  • Building Regulations and Supporting Approved Documents
  • Bills of Quantities for Highway Works

Requirements

  • A high level of professional experience or knowledge of one or more of the outlined courses
  • The ability to engage professionals with confidence, and be comfortable presenting interactive online or face‑to‑face sessions
  • The ability to develop high‑quality, comprehensive course materials, notes, and interactive exercises on the above topics
  • A commitment to keeping course content current and aligned with evolving standards and legislation
  • Chartered, Technician, or Incorporated status (ICE, IStructE, CIHT, or equivalent)
  • Formal teaching or training credentials, or previous experience with teaching or professional development delivery
  • Remote/virtual course delivery - flexibility to fit teaching around your schedule
  • Access to our established client network and ongoing demand for CPD courses
  • Guidance available to support development of course materials
  • Retain full ownership of your course content
  • The opportunity to share your expertise and shape industry practice
