We are recruiting for a global financial services group to lead the Group’s new electronic US Withholding Tax Filing As A Service product. The service is designed to streamline the end-to-end process of tax form collection, validation, and filing for Qualified Intermediary (QI) and Non-Qualified Intermediary (NQI) customer firms. It automates the collection and validation of W-8 and W-9 forms, reconciles tax documentation against client KYC data, and supports the automated filing of Forms 1042-S and 1099 at tax year end. Reporting directly to the UK CEO, this is a strategic product launch.
The Global Product Head will own the product workflow, ensure IRS compliance across all operational elements, manage relationships with the technical development and operations teams, third-party IRS filing suppliers, and collaborate with the sales team to position and support the product with customers.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimise the collection and validation logic for W-8IMY, W-8BEN-E, W-8BEN, W-9, and related withholding statements, ensuring client-facing clarity and ease of submission.
- Ensure all processes remain fully compliant with IRS regulations, including Chapters 3, 4, 31, and 61 of the US Internal Revenue Code, and communicate these requirements effectively to clients.
- Lead client education on QI, NQI, and US payee tax documentation requirements, including designing and delivering training sessions, webinars, and client guides.
- Act as the primary business owner liaising with technical development and operations teams to translate compliance requirements and client use cases into functional product specifications.
- Manage the relationship with The Group’s IRS filing vendor, ensuring service reliability, data integrity, and regulatory accuracy across all client submissions.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to The Group’s client base, providing guidance on the completion, validation, and maintenance of W-8/W-9 forms and withholding statements.
- Oversee the year-end tax filing process, ensuring all 1042-S and 1099 filings for client firms are completed accurately, on time, and in full compliance with IRS and operational requirements.
Qualifications and requirements
The successful candidate must have deep domain expertise in US withholding tax, FATCA, and the IRS Qualified Intermediary (QI) regime, coupled with strong product management and stakeholder engagement skills — responsible not only for ensuring regulatory accuracy and workflow integrity, but also for engaging directly with customers to help them understand, adopt, and benefit from the service. The role combines tax technical knowledge, regulatory compliance oversight, and client relationship leadership. This would suit an expert in US Withholding Tax from a large Accounting or Law Firm (or Bank or other Financial Institution) now looking to use their customer liaison skills and tax expertise in a more commercial role, helping to build & manage this new division.
