Part-time (21 hours p/w) South of England / Central Scotland — Predominantly remote with regular site travel.

Immediately available, experienced ER professional looking for a part-time role? Practical ER expertise. Calm judgement. Trusted support for managers.

Syme Drummond is supporting a well-established organisation operating within the housing construction sector to appoint an experienced Employee Relations Specialist on a part-time, job share basis, working 21 hours per week. This role has been created to provide dedicated ER expertise across the organisation’s operations and can be based in either Central Scotland or South England. This role will suit someone who enjoys hands-on casework, pragmatic problem-solving and coaching managers through complex people issues.

While the role is predominantly remote, regular travel to sites is required, and candidates must be geographically positioned within reasonable travelling distance of either the organisation’s South of England or Scottish offices.

The organisation’s offices are based in:

  • England: Bourne End, Buckinghamshire; Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire; Staines and Dorking, Surrey; Winchester, Hampshire
  • Scotland: Glasgow; Edinburgh; Falkirk; Aberdeen

To be successful in this role, candidates must be based within approximately 1–1.5 hours’ travel of these locations and willing to attend sites as required, typically around casework rather than fixed days.

You will manage a varied ER caseload across the English business, supporting managers with disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance and investigation matters. This is a true specialist role, focused on ER delivery rather than generalist HR activity. You will work closely with People Business Partners and the wider People team, providing sound judgement, clear guidance and confidence to managers, while ensuring policies and employment law are applied consistently and fairly.

What we are looking for:

  • Proven experience in a specialist ER role
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law
  • Confidence managing complex, sensitive casework independently
  • Ability to coach and influence managers rather than lead processes for them
  • Strong written skills and attention to detail
  • A pragmatic, calm and professional approach
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel regularly to sites
