Job Description
Symbiotic Talent is partnering with an ambitious scaling global business in Dundee (hybrid) to recruit a Financial Controller with a high degree of commercial acumen. This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your ability for driving business performance through insightful data analytics and presentation whilst leading and developing a team and managing cashflow.
Role Purpose
As the business grows, the Commercial Financial Controller will be instrumental in driving financial performance, managing cashflow, and delivering strategic insights that shape business decisions. This role is a key business partner to operational and project teams, ensuring financial clarity and commercial impact across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Commercial Finance
- Deliver actionable, data-driven insights to support strategic planning.
- Translate financial performance into clear business actions and commercial opportunities.
- Partner with General Managers globally to deliver consolidated project reporting including variances and movements
Cashflow & Financial Control
- Lead UK and global cashflow forecasting and working capital management at an entity and group level
- Monitor financial risks and ensure liquidity across multi-region project portfolios
- Review monthend journals, balance sheet reconciliations and payroll
- VAT submissions
Performance Reporting & Analysis
- Oversee and review the production of the monthly reporting pack and produce monthly commentary on variances, highlighting areas for profitability and cashflow improvements
- Analysis and reporting of monthly project costs and utilization rates
- Monitor and report on project profitability
- Develop and maintain KPIs and dashboards aligned with business goals
- Provide monthly and ad hoc reporting with insightful variance and trend analysis
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
People & Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor a growing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability and initiative
- Collaborate cross-functionally to embed financial awareness across the business
Business Partnering & Communication
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and project teams
- Communicate complex financial concepts in a clear, jargon-free manner
- Build strong relationships with non-financial stakeholders across global operations
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a commercial finance leadership role, ideally in engineering, infrastructure construction or other project financial based industry
- Strong expertise in cashflow management, financial planning, and performance analysis
- An aptitude and enthusiasm for delivering high impact insights with a focus on visualization and simplification
- A track record of the development of Management Information Systems
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels
- Calm, empathetic, proactive, and solutions-oriented, with a strong commercial acumen
- Experience working in a scaling or high-growth environment is highly desirable
