SECONDARY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
1.0 FTE
Essential Functions and Qualifications:
- State of Michigan Teaching Certificate (required), SM (preferred), SE, SA, or SV endorsement
- Ability to be enthusiastic, flexible, and work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
- Familiarity with a variety of interventions, including the Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention System (LLI), Orton-Gillingham, Heggerty, Touch Math, etc.
- Strong background in using assessment and data to inform instruction and document student progress
- Ability to teach social strategies to students to facilitate success in general education
- Ability to transform instruction through the creative use of technology
- Knowledge in instructional practices for varied learning styles and individual student needs across multiple grade levels
- Knowledge of and ability to accurately complete IEPs, present level statements, measurable goals and objectives, and documentation of progress toward goals and objectives
- Successful classroom management strategies and skills
- Ability to develop and implement positive behavior support plans
- Belief that all children can learn and an understanding of differences in students
- Excellent organizational and communication skills (written, verbal, and listening skills)
- Willingness and commitment to participate in curriculum development, school improvement, and professional development opportunities
- Training in CPI and Trauma-Informed Practices or willingness to be trained
- Ability to abide by all district policies and procedures and demonstrate competencies specified in Michigan Special Education Rules and Regulations
