What is Commissioning?

Commissioning management is the process which ensures all the building services systems perform as designed before handing over to the Client. Our role starts at design and ends at hand over to the facility management (FM) teams. So we are involved in all aspects of a project and work with all the design, construction, installation, and FM teams. As energy performance standards become more important and end users demand higher levels of resilience our role is more than ever central to the successful delivery of a project.

Job Description

As a Graduate Commissioning Manager, you will support the commissioning process and contribute to on-site functional testing under the guidance of Senior Commissioning Managers. To succeed in this role, it is essential to demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, be resourceful, and remain composed under pressure. You will provide valuable support to the project team in delivering building services commissioning management throughout the engineering process of a project, from conception to completion. Our approach emphasises teamwork, and we strive to be part of the solution, not the problem. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality in all aspects of commissioning management, including planning, programming, reporting, collaborative working, witnessing, and handover to the FM teams.

Responsibilities

  • Learning and Development – learn the intricacies of commissioning processes, understand project deliverables such as plans, specifications, and relevant industry standards, manage sub‐contractors, create programmes and track, manage and escalate project issues.
  • Programme Support and Mentorship – receive continuous support from a dedicated buddy and mentor, who will offer guidance, assist you in overcoming challenges, and help foster your professional development.
  • Project Planning and Coordination – assist in project planning meetings to understand commissioning schedules, milestones, and resource requirements. Work closely with Cx managers, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to coordinate commissioning activities.
  • Documentation and Reporting – develop understanding and assist in maintaining commissioning plans, procedures, and documentation, ensuring accurate recording of tests, inspections, and results. Assist in preparing progress reports, flash reports, and tracking documents for stakeholders.
  • System Testing and Issue Resolution – participate in testing and verifying systems to ensure they meet design specifications and performance criteria. Assist in identifying and resolving technical issues or discrepancies during the commissioning phase.
  • Quality Control and Compliance – support with ensuring that commissioning activities comply with quality standards, safety regulations, and project requirements.
  • Training – participate in training sessions related to commissioning processes, H&S, systems, and equipment as well as any further training required.
  • Problem Solving – participate in ongoing training to improve your understanding of project management, engineering processes, and industry standards. Contribute to initiatives that improve project delivery.
  • Client Interface – develop effective communication skills to interface with clients during the commissioning process, addressing any concerns or queries.
