The Syensqo Composite R&I group is seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join its Wrexham R&I team. Working within Syensqo Research & Innovation (R&I) GBU, the position offers the opportunity to lead Syensqo into new growth territories with breakthrough innovation to develop the next-generation of materials and process technology. The scientist will work collaboratively with product development teams for the Defense, Aerospace and Automotive industries to ensure alignment with the overall business objectives.

  • Lead development projects to support the growth of the composites business with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to apply a sound fundamental science approach to research projects.
  • Establish technical relationships with internal and external customers by presenting and discussing research results.
  • Design, support, and manage technical (innovation, business) projects in collaboration with market-facing teams globally.
  • Innovate and protect IP.
  • Develop new methods to support novel R&I projects, perform validation of test method, maintain data compliance, and train junior team members to deliver/support projects.
  • Balance multiple projects in a quick paced, results oriented environment.
  • Support business sustainment.

You will bring:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Organic/Polymer or Materials Sciences.
  • Experience in Composite Materials is preferred.
  • Practical experience with direct involvement in customer facing projects and/or manufacturing projects is an advantage.
  • Experience working in cross-functional / cross-cultural team.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United Kingdom.
  • Technical knowledge in field of thermoset Composites, Organic/Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Nanotechnology.
  • Proven track record with experimental design and execution.
  • Familiarity with laboratory practices associated with wet-lab chemistry and formulating is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge on HSE in lab parameters.
  • Experience in product/process transition from R&D to production and six sigma training are preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills. Ability to sell ideas and negotiate for resources without direct authority.
  • Efficient use of digital tools for data sharing globally.
  • Technical report writing, data collection/analysis, and attention to details.
