About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT) to join us at an exciting point of development. This role extends beyond routine accuracy checking—it offers the opportunity to help shape and strengthen our dispensing and operational processes, supporting the ongoing evolution of our pharmacy services, including the implementation and delivery of advanced NHS and private pharmacy services.

You will work closely with pharmacists and senior team members, with your professional judgement and experience genuinely valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out final accuracy checks on dispensed NHS and private prescriptions, ensuring correct medicine, strength, formulation, quantity, and labelling in compliance with legal, clinical, and SOP requirements
• Maintain consistently high standards of patient safety
• Support the operational delivery of advanced NHS services (including Pharmacy First, vaccination services, and other commissioned services) and private services through accurate dispensing and workflow management
• Identify, investigate, and resolve dispensing errors or near‑misses, escalating appropriately and contributing to learning and improvement
• Support the day‑to‑day running of the dispensary, maintaining workflow continuity during busy periods
• Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of SOPs, supporting inspection readiness and regulatory compliance
• Assist with stock management, including ordering, expiry date checks, and cold‑chain handling where required
• Act as a role model for safe dispensing practices, providing guidance and informal mentorship to dispensers, trainees, and junior technicians
• Maintain accurate, auditable records in line with GPhC standards and internal governance requirements

Minimum Service & Operational Expectations

• Maintain a consistently high standard of accuracy checking to support safe and timely supply of prescriptions, efficient delivery of NHS services such as Pharmacy First and other commissioned services, and smooth patient flow with reduced dispensing delays
• Support the wider team in meeting operational and contractual requirements through effective collaboration and professional judgement
• Assist in ensuring the smooth running of advanced NHS and private pharmacy services through effective dispensary management

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum of two years’ experience working as a qualified ACT
• Strong background in community pharmacy (hospital or DSP experience welcomed)
• Excellent attention to detail and a safety‑first mindset
• Confidence working independently within scope of practice
• Willingness to take ownership and contribute to service development
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative team approach
• IT proficiency with PMR and dispensing systems — RxWeb
• Experience supporting the delivery of advanced NHS services or private pharmacy services
• Experience supporting audits, inspections, or governance activities
• Interest in mentoring or supporting junior staff
• Experience working in evolving or high‑volume pharmacy environment

What We Offer

• Permanent ACT role
• Salary: £30,000–£34,000 per annum, dependent on experience
• Working Pattern
  • Monday–Friday: 09:00–17:30 (with 1-hour unpaid break)
  • Saturday: 09:00–14:00 (additional hours when needed)
  • Sunday: Closed
  • 28 days annual leave (inclusive of bank and public holidays), accrued daily
