Role Description The Autoclave and Washer Engineer is a full-time remote role responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, and repair of autoclaves and washer-disinfectors used in healthcare and controlled environments. Day-to-day tasks include performing routine and planned preventative maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, replacing parts, and ensuring all equipment operates safely and in compliance with relevant standards and regulations. The engineer will provide technical support to clients, document service activities, complete maintenance reports, and collaborate with the wider service team to coordinate visits and follow-up actions. The role also involves advising customers on best practices for equipment use, supporting training on proper operation, and contributing to continuous improvement of service processes and technical documentation.
Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical and electrical engineering skills related to installation, maintenance, and repair of autoclaves, washer-disinfectors, or similar process equipment.
  • Experience with sterilisation, disinfection, and decontamination technologies, including understanding of relevant safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in fault-finding, diagnostics, and use of tools and test equipment for performance verification and safety checks.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, and maintenance documentation, with accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently in a remote setting and manage multiple service tasks.
  • Relevant technical qualification such as an apprenticeship, vocational certificate, or degree in mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Previous field service or site-based engineering experience in healthcare, laboratory, or controlled environments is highly beneficial.
  • Comfort with digital tools for remote support, reporting, and scheduling; valid driver’s license may be required for on-site visits.
