The General Analyst is a versatile and data-driven professional responsible for providing essential analytical support across the entire organization, with a primary focus on the Marketing Department. This role is critical in bridging the gap between raw data and actionable business strategy. The successful candidate will analyse attendee behaviour, marketing campaign performance, and industry trends to optimize outreach and operational efficiency. While marketing is the priority, the General Analyst will also support the Commercial, Programming, and Operations teams, ensuring a unified, data-informed approach to the festival's continued growth and success. This role requires a "start-up" mindset, characterised by adaptability and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Marketing Analysis & Strategy
- Monitor, analyse, and optimise multi-channel marketing performance across social, email, PPC, media partnerships, and owned channels.
- Measure campaign effectiveness and ROI, with a strong focus on driving ticket sales and audience engagement.
- Expand and refine audience segmentation, analysing attendee demographics, behaviours, and preferences.
- Enable personalised and targeted marketing strategies using data-driven insights.
- Develop, maintain, and own marketing dashboards providing real-time visibility into KPIs for marketing teams, senior leadership, and executives.
- Partner with marketing stakeholders to define success metrics and continuously improve reporting accuracy and relevance.
- Data Quality, Accuracy & Governance
- Audit and assess historical data, identifying inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and structural issues.
- Define data quality standards and implement validation checks to prevent recurring issues.
- Establish and maintain a single source of truth for key marketing, ticketing, and audience datasets.
- Document data definitions, assumptions, and known limitations to ensure clarity and trust in insights.
- Process Review & Refinement
- Map end-to-end data processes, from collection through reporting.
- Identify points where data quality degrades due to manual entry, tool limitations, or unclear ownership.
- Redesign and standardise data workflows to improve reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
- Collaborate with teams to embed improved data practices into day-to-day operations.
- Business & Operational Support
- Provide cross-functional analytical support across marketing, programming, commercial, operations, and leadership.
- Support the Commercial Director by analysing brand partnership performance and identifying new revenue opportunities through market mapping and data modelling.
- Assist the Programming team with data-backed insights on session popularity, attendee interests, and content performance.
- Serve as the central point of contact for data requests, ensuring consistent interpretation and usage across the organisation.
- Reporting, Insights & Communication
- Deliver clear, actionable insights tailored to technical and non-technical stakeholders; create executive-level summaries that support strategic decision-making.
- Clearly distinguish between corrected, validated datasets and legacy or limited historical data in reporting.
- Tooling & Infrastructure Support
- Evaluate existing analytics, CRM, ticketing, and BI tools for suitability and data reliability.
- Recommend improvements, integrations, or automation to reduce manual processes and error risk.
- Ensure dashboards and reports reflect cleaned, standardised, and well-governed data.
- Design scalable data processes to support the growth of SXSW London year over year.
- Enable forecasting, scenario planning, and post-event evaluation.
- Build long-term confidence in data as a strategic asset across the business.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Degree in analytics, economics, statistics, marketing, business, or related quantitative field.
- 2-4 years of experience in an analytical role, preferably within the events, media, or creative industries.
- Experience with BI/data visualisation tools such as Google Analytics, Google Looker Studio.
- Expert proficiency in Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables) and demonstrable experience with SQL or Python for data manipulation and extraction.
- Familiarity with Google Analytics, CRM systems (HubSpot), and social media analytics tools is highly desirable.
- Proven experience analysing marketing performance and ROI across multiple channels (social, email, PPC, partnerships).
- Strong understanding of audience segmentation and behaviour-driven insights.
- Ability to review, refine, and standardise data collection and reporting processes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to work cross-functionally with non-technical teams.
- Experience in events, media, culture, or consumer-facing businesses is a plus.
