About The Role

As a Construction Tutor, you will deliver practical and classroom-based construction training to learners with a range of additional learning needs. You will plan and deliver engaging lessons that develop vocational skills and employability, helping learners prepare for further training, employment, and independent living. You will create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare course/training materials
  • Plan and deliver engaging construction lessons and practical activities
  • Support learners to achieve individual learning goals and accredited qualifications where appropriate
  • Develop learners’ practical skills, health and safety awareness, and employability skills
  • Track, monitor, and record learner progress
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet a variety of learning needs and abilities
  • Work collaboratively with Learning Support Assistants, therapists, families, and external professionals
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and organisational policies
  • Complete external paperwork as required in a timely manner
  • Maintain the quality of the learner programme to a sufficient standard to pass IQA and EQA criteria
  • Complete learner and delivery paperwork as required promptly
  • Deliver engaging sessions including wellbeing awareness
  • Attend business networking events to promote the activities of SWRAC
  • Work closely with team members to ensure that ILP targets are monitored and reviewed
  • Be aware of individual learners’ risk assessments and needs
  • Encourage independence and self‑help skills wherever possible
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by management and appropriate to the role

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working within the construction industry (e.g. carpentry, joinery, brickwork, painting and decorating, maintenance, general construction, or a similar trade).
  • Is passionate about supporting young people to achieve their goals.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can motivate and engage learners with a range of abilities and support needs.
  • Is organised, creative, and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant construction industry experience.
  • Good literacy, numeracy, and IT skills (Level 2 Maths & English or equivalent).
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements within a construction environment.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.

Desirable

  • Teaching qualification (e.g. DTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed, Award in Education and Training) or willingness to work toward one.
  • Assessor or IQA qualification.
  • Experience working with learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Experience delivering vocational qualifications.
