Sword is a leading provider of business technology solutions within the Energy, Public and Finance Sectors, driving transformational change within our clients. We use proven technology, specialist teams and domain expertise to build solid technical foundations across platforms, data, and business applications. We have a passion for using technology to solve business problems, working in partnership with our clients to help in achieving their goals.

As a Software Engineer with us, you’ll be part of a close-knit team delivering high-quality, scalable software solutions across the full stack using modern Microsoft technologies. You’ll play a hands-on role in the full development lifecycle — from gathering requirements and designing solutions to building, testing, and deploying them in Azure. You’ll be working primarily with C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET MVC, JavaScript, Angular, and SQL Server to develop and maintain both internal and client-facing applications.

Your day-to-day could include writing robust APIs, improving database performance, enhancing user interfaces, or collaborating with stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver real business value. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to new feature development, drive continuous improvement of our systems, and support clients by solving technical problems that make a real difference. You’ll also play an active role in Agile ceremonies, work within Azure DevOps to manage your workflow, and contribute to documentation that supports quality delivery.

If you enjoy solving complex problems, writing clean code, and working with a supportive and forward-thinking team, this role offers the variety and challenge you’re looking for.

As the Software Engineer, you will:

  • Designing and developing full-stack applications using C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET MVC, HTML, JavaScript, JQuery, Angular and SQL Server.
  • Writing clean, efficient and testable code that powers data-driven applications and APIs.
  • Deploying and supporting applications in Microsoft Azure.
  • Creating and optimising SQL Server queries and routines to improve performance and reliability.
  • Investigating and resolving technical issues reported by users, collaborating across teams to deliver fixes.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Managing tasks and contributing to project timelines in Azure DevOps.
  • Supporting the delivery of new software applications and enhancements to existing platforms.
  • Producing technical documentation including user guides, specs and test plans.
  • Collaborating with and supporting other team members as part of a dynamic development environment.

Here are the key skills and experience relevant to this role:

  • Proven experience developing in .NET/C# and ASP.NET MVC.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server, including writing and optimising queries.
  • Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (ideally Angular) and front-end development.
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs and cloud-based application deployment, particularly in Azure.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps and Agile project delivery.
  • Analytical thinking and a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • A commitment to delivering excellent service and user-focused solutions.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience with Power BI or other reporting tools.
  • Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • A background in client-facing roles or stakeholder engagement.
