Sword is a leading provider of business technology solutions within the Energy, Public and Finance Sectors, driving transformational change within our clients. We use proven technology, specialist teams and domain expertise to build solid technical foundations across platforms, data, and business applications. We have a passion for using technology to solve business problems, working in partnership with our clients to help in achieving their goals.
About the Role: As a SharePoint / Microsoft 365 Architect, you will play a pivotal role in designing, shaping, and governing modern digital workplace platforms for our clients. You will take ownership of the technical architecture of SharePoint Online and the wider Microsoft 365 ecosystem, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned to long-term business needs. You will act as a trusted technical authority, working closely with client stakeholders, delivery teams, and wider Sword specialists to translate business requirements into robust architectural solutions. While this role is client-facing and collaborative, its primary focus is on solution design, governance, and architectural decision-making, rather than day-to-day administration. This is a role for someone who enjoys setting direction, solving complex platform challenges, and influencing how organisations use Microsoft 365 at scale. You will help clients modernise collaboration, improve information management, and establish strong foundations for future digital transformation.
As the SharePoint / Microsoft 365 Architect, you will:
- Design and own SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 architecture to support enterprise collaboration, content management, and workflow automation.
- Define and implement governance frameworks covering permissions, information architecture, data classification, retention, and compliance.
- Lead the technical design of migrations from legacy platforms into SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365.
- Provide architectural oversight for integrations across SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Power Platform, and related services.
- Act as a technical authority, advising stakeholders on best practice, platform capabilities, and design decisions.
- Work alongside delivery teams to ensure solutions are implemented in line with agreed architecture and standards.
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable, secure solutions.
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and internal security policies.
- Monitor platform usage, performance, and technical health, identifying opportunities for optimisation and improvement.
- Stay current with Microsoft roadmap updates and emerging technologies to guide innovation and future planning.
We’re looking for an experienced Microsoft 365 professional who enjoys working at an architectural level and influencing how organisations design and govern their digital workplace platforms. You’ll bring many of the following:
- Proven experience architecting SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 environments in complex or enterprise settings.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 services including SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and Power Platform.
- Experience designing information architecture, governance models, and security frameworks.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) and M365 security and compliance capabilities.
- Confidence working in client-facing environments, providing technical leadership and guidance.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
At Sword, our core values and culture are based on caring about our people, investing in training and career development, and building inclusive teams where we are all encouraged to contribute to achieve success. We offer comprehensive benefits designed to support your professional development and enhance your overall quality of life. In addition to a Competitive Salary, here's what you can expect as part of our benefits package:
- Personalised Career Development: We create a development plan customised to your goals and aspirations, with a range of learning and development opportunities within a culture that encourages growth.
- Flexible working: Flexible work arrangements to support your work-life balance. We can’t promise to always be able to meet every request, however, are keen to discuss your individual preferences to make it work where we can.
- A Fantastic Benefits Package: This includes generous annual leave allowance, enhanced family friendly benefits, pension scheme, access to private health, well-being, and insurance schemes, an employee assistance programme, discounted cash plan and more.
At Sword we are dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and are proud to be an equal opportunities employer, ensuring that all applicants receive fair and equal consideration for employment, regardless of whether they meet every requirement.
