As the Application Engineer (SCADA), you will support and help maintain a portfolio of applications used within the energy and renewables sector, working alongside experienced engineers, internal teams, and external vendors to ensure systems are reliable and fit for purpose. You’ll be involved in the day-to-day support of live operational systems, while developing your technical skills across real-time data, integrations, and application improvements in a supportive environment. This role would suit a recent graduate or early-career engineer who has gained some hands-on experience through a first role, placement, or graduate programme and is looking to build a long-term career working with SCADA and energy-focused applications.
Responsibilities
- Supporting a portfolio of applications used within energy and renewables environments
- Assisting with the support and maintenance of real-time asset information systems (primarily PI)
- Working with vendors to support issue resolution, upgrades, and system improvements
- Helping to monitor application performance, data flows, and system reliability
- Supporting application interoperability and integrations across multiple systems
- Producing and maintaining reports and supporting operational data needs
- Collaborating with colleagues across technical and non-technical teams
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and learning new technologies as part of the role
Qualifications
- Some experience or exposure to application support, systems support, or a related technical role
- Exposure to PI systems (e.g. through a first role, placement, or graduate programme)
- Basic knowledge of databases such as SQL and/or Oracle
- An interest in how applications integrate, share data, and support operational systems
- Exposure to Bazefield or similar energy / operational systems would be beneficial, but is not required and can be learned in role
- Comfortable working with vendors and stakeholders in a professional environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- A proactive approach and willingness to learn
- Familiarity with Agile or DevOps ways of working is beneficial
