Opportunity for a Sales Development Representative to join a high-growth technology start-up focused on eliminating fuel poverty and improving living standards in social housing through data insights.
Role: Sales Development Representative
Reporting to: Head of Enterprise
Location: This is a field-based sales role, with a mix of remote working, customer travel, as well as limited company and head office gatherings.
Our mission: At Switchee, we believe that everyone deserves to live in a decent home and that the environments we inhabit have a massive influence on our ability to enjoy life and prosper. One in five households in the UK live in social housing, a sector with the right values at its core but that has historically struggled to deploy innovations in the home. Many residents still can’t afford to heat their homes, and live in cold, mouldy properties they can’t be proud of. We believe that radical innovation in internet-connected technology can ensure that every resident, every day, is living in a home that allows them to succeed. That’s why our products are built not just on great technology, but on an understanding of what people want from the space they live in.
Your responsibilities: The Sales Development Representative, SDR, is responsible for creating qualified sales opportunities for the wider sales team. This role sits at the front of the sales process and focuses on identifying target accounts, engaging decision-makers, understanding business needs, and booking high-quality meetings for Account Managers or Business Development Managers. This is a high-activity role suited to someone who is curious, resilient, organised, commercially aware, and comfortable speaking to new people every day. The SDR does not close deals, but plays a major part in building pipeline and driving revenue growth. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys pace, targets, structure, and continuous improvement. It is not a passive account management role. It requires discipline, consistency, and confidence.
The main purpose of the role is to generate new business opportunities through outbound prospecting, inbound lead follow-up, research, and professional engagement with potential customers. The SDR is expected to:
- Build pipeline for the sales team through prospecting and outreach using marketing-generated and inbound leads. Other lead sources are encouraged.
- Open conversations with the right people in the right accounts and ensure these leads are kept warm until passing them over to the commercial team.
- Qualify interest, need, fit, and timing and book meetings that have a realistic chance of progressing.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of our business product and value proposition.
- Collaborate with the commercial team on sales and account strategies.
- Network at every opportunity and build key business relationships.
- Represent the company well at the first point of contact.
- Consistently display a high level of energy, drive, enthusiasm, initiative, commitment, and professionalism.
- Ensure a high level of engagement with the CRM, ensuring information is consistently up to date.
We are a company built on a strong desire to help social housing providers. You will need to have the ability to learn about our industry and talk with authority on it. We will provide regular in-house sessions on the industry and our product offerings, but it is up to you to work with the team on how to best utilise this information.
Your experience: Previous experience in a sales, customer-facing, telesales, lead generation, recruitment, account management, or business development role is helpful, but not always essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable speaking on the phone and engaging senior stakeholders. Good research skills and attention to detail. Able to write concise and relevant outbound emails. Able to use CRM systems such as HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar. Confident using LinkedIn and modern prospecting tools. Good time management and self-discipline. Comfortable working to targets, metrics, and regular review.
Who You Are: The desire to build something revolutionary. Care about the environment and are interested in energy efficiency. Interested in technology and neat solutions to complex problems. Biased toward action and open to feedback and being coached. You are comfortable talking to and opening up conversations in various situations. You are naturally curious, good at asking questions and professionally energetic. You're open, positive under pressure, and straightforward. You have a commercial mindset, self-motivated and consistent in your output. We are not able to nurture success for those who don’t thrive on challenge and change. We are not a team for people who believe in negative chatter and gossip.
Perks: Unlimited holiday policy + Bank Holidays! No need to count those Winter break days anymore! Everyone at Switchee enjoys flexible working hours and is the master of their own routine. We have a remote-first Hybrid Working Model, with offices near London Bridge. We will provide you with all the necessary equipment to work from home in a safe and enjoyable manner. We host Quarterly offsites as an integral component of our Hybrid Working arrangements. These offsites are mandatory for all team members and serve as a vital opportunity to foster cohesion and collaboration within our diverse workforce. We socialise together with regular outings. We provide an L&D budget and access to our Switchee Library, where you can request new books monthly. We offer Spill, a Mental Health app at your fingertips, where you can get in touch with a therapist in record time.
P.S. Switchee is a Disability Confident Employer and we aim to provide reasonable adjustments for our new hires to ensure they are successful and supported in their roles. We also practice an anti-bias approach to recruitment.
