A growing defence-tech consultancy is seeking a founding Senior Software Engineer, specialist in Rust, to build scalable, modern applications supporting defence clients. You'll be focused on solving complex software and data problems for defence and national security organisations. They are deliberately setting a very high bar, hiring Senior Software Engineers (Rust) from top universities who are among the strongest technically in their field.

The work is very problem-solving focused, small teams tackling complex systems, often working on completely new challenges every few months. You’ll genuinely be working alongside some of the best Software Engineers/teams in the country, solving problems no one else has before.

They’re hiring for, and value, Senior Software Engineers who:

  • Enjoy working on challenging systems
  • Truly understand problem-solving principles
  • Are adaptable and articulate

You’ll be the founding Rust Engineer within the team, responsible for setting up Rust best practices and building out the Rust specialism internally, as well as the go-to person for Rust-related client projects. They will build a team around you. Everything at the moment will be greenfield.

Current and upcoming projects include work in the following areas:

  • On-prem and policy compliant solutions
  • Satellite systems
  • AI safety and security

Additional criteria:

  • STEM degree 2:1 or better from a leading university
  • Eligibility for UK SC-level security clearance
  • Experience in defence or secure environments beneficial but not required
